NetClean invited to speak in New Delhi

At the recent three-day ECPAT International South Asia Regional training event in New Dehli, India, the Head of NetClean, Anna Borgström, was invited to represent the private sector as a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator.

The conference was aimed at members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and featured member delegates from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, The Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

One key focus of the conference was the six identified areas of WePROTECT’s Model National Response. The workshop that Anna Borgström facilitated was aimed at mapping this model against existing capacities in the countries represented at the conference, and identifying any gaps between the two. Another key focus was looking at solutions that prevent and combat online child sexual exploitation where technology plays a central role.

Leaving New Dehli, Anna Borgström summarized her impressions:

Nepal concluded the Preventing and Responding to Online Child Sexual Exploitation training for the SAARC countries with the words “The holiday period of internet is over for us, we need solutions and programmes to help our children stay safe”.

I leave New Delhi feeling humble towards the people I have met and the work that they do. Speaking with delegates from countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka that despite everything else that’s going on in their countries have a firm commitment to prevent and respond to Online Child Sexual Exploitation, leaves me with hope for a brighter future.
