The power of technology
– report from the Microsoft INHOPE conference

Over the past two days NetClean has been on location at the Microsoft Head Quarters outside Seattle, to participate in an INHOPE Fundraising and Awareness-raising summit.

The summit, which featured tech-companies, social media platforms, search engines and the umbrella organisation INHOPE, which represents a network of hotlines from across the world, focused on the power of technology and how it can be used to combat online child sexual abuse.

Richard Matti, our Global Sales & Business Development Manager represented NetClean at the conference,

I shared a platform with Facebook, Google and Palantir. We all play different and important roles in safeguarding children with technology, working in different ways to help remove online child sexual abuse material on the internet. The tone was positive and there was a strong sense that we need to work more collaboratively across sectors to make sure that we use technology in the most efficient way to remove child sexual abuse material.

Matti opened the session called ‘The Power of Technology, the Public and Private sector: an industry perspective, with a presentation about what business should do to protect their brands and their employees by using technology to ensure policy compliance.

The presentation focused on how NetClean’s Technical Model National Response addresses how different actors who operate on the Internet, from social media platforms and search engines to business and organisations, must collaborate and use technology to detect online child sexual abuse material.

The tone was positive and there was a strong sense that we need to work more collaboratively across sectors …”

Matti also used NetClean’s own product NetClean ProActive to illustrate how technology installed by a business on their computers and servers can enable a brighter future for children by following the trail of a detected image.

Matti reflected after the Q&A session that,

The illustration that shows how our technology works also helps businesses understand how the installation of our product primarily helps protect their business.  It also shows the wider ramification of installing NetClean ProActive, and that collaborating with law enforcement if child sexual abuse material is detected, is of benefit for all of society.”
